I received my trailer this morning and assembled it this afternoon. That’s one impressive piece of hardware! I have to go to Canadian Tire for a few things to complement it but so far, wow!
Pics to come as soon as I get my camera back.
I got a very cool news this weekend from Jim at Bikes At Work, my bicycle trailer should be shipping at the end of the week, so I should get it about a week later (either April’s 2 or 9 week).
I just cannot wait for it. More news and a pic as soon as it arrives.

Why am I doing this project
I’ve been doing this project for me and my friends, but we aren’t many enough to have them produced, so I’m looking into more people so we can get this produced!
I’m doing this project for many other reasons. First of all, I am a big believer of utility biking. I, myself, practice it all year long. Now I wanna get myself a Bikes@Work trailer to do even more with my bike, mainly carrying loads that you would not normally be able to without a car, like carrying my music instruments, groceries, etc.
I’m also doing this to promote utility biking and making people think and ask questions about utility biking. To me nothing’s more SUV than a utility bike!
Also, I’ve always wanted to have a bike tee like this.
And everyone needs some extra money, especially since I’m going back to school in August!
What does it look like?
This is what it looks like:
Presale
Here you can pre-order your t-shirts. Note that this is only equivalent to being subscribed to a mailing list, but it ensures I can order the right amount of t-shirt of different sizes for everybody who wants one.
Simply fill this form. It is very important that you put in a valid email address otherwise I won’t be able to send you updates when the t-shirts are printed.
I’ve started sending emails to various websites to get some kind of web presence on the “online bike scene”. So far the biggest job has been to find this online biking scene, and utility biking seems to be even more of a niche, which makes it kinda hard to show my stuff.
There’s just one thing that changed, it’s that the tees won’t be available for purchase on organic tees (can’t find green dyed t-shirts). I’ve contacted t-shirt manufacturers and the lowest command for a dye batch is somewhere between 2500 and 3000 units, which I can’t afford.
I’m really hoping to pull this project out to finally be able to get a Bikes@Work bike trailer, and also to help promote the great alternative to cars that is utility biking.
If you have a bike or utility bike oriented website and want to put a link to my website, please send me a email so I can provide you any info you might need.
You can contact me by various ways:
- SIP (VoIP)
- Landline phone
- Cellphone
- Email
- Mail.
I only publish my email,
here it is. To obtain my other coordinates, email me and I’ll provide you what you need to know.
I have continued working on the color element which I’d like to propose to SVG and CSS3. I cleaned up some errors, completed some descriptions and added my suggestion for a CSS equivalent property.
Please leave comments!
I just ordered a truckload of books. These are books I’ve been wanting to buy for a long time now and just made myself a nice gift (well, my birthday is today, the 4th). Here’s what I got:
- Tufte, Edward. The Visual Display of Quantitative Information.
- ———.Envisioning Information.
- ———.Visual Explanations: Images and Quantities, Evidence and Narrative.
- ———.Beautiful Evidence.
- Norman, Donald A. The Design of Everyday Things.
- Resnick, Elizabeth. Design for Communication: Conceptual Graphic Design Basics.
- Heller, Steven. Citizen Designer.
- Frascara, Jorge. Communication Design: Principles, Methods and Practice.
- Lidwell, William. Universal Principles of Design: A Cross-Disciplinary Reference.
I should be working on the website soon. I’ve got the whole thing planned on paper but I’m still unsure of the way I’ll be doing it (either code it or just do it page per page).
I wish I had more time to work on my stuff. Right now I have 2 off days. HR dept tells me it’s “the best you can get”. I guess it all depends from which perspective you’re seeing it… When you subtract the time I spend doing all the stuff one must do, and the time I spend on Open Source projects there ain’t much time left at the end of the week. Think I’ll be quitting this job soon and go back to freelancing if I can. Contracts are hard to find, but when you look at the difference between working 37 hours/week with that kind of pay versus waiting a week doing nothing and getting a contract here and then, the difference is hardly noticeable.
I’m also thinking more and more about moving to Montréal in the beginning of 2007, so it poses a dilemma: do I continue working there and make a steady pay, or take a chance and do something that might not turn out too good. Still, I’m a big believer of the “No Risk = No gain”, so I should as well take the chance, it can’t be much much worse anyway.
